February – Back Into the Rhythm: Everyday Style That Works

February – Back Into the Rhythm: Everyday Style That Works

January always feels big; holidays, late nights, no routines and a wardrobe that’s a mix of swimmers, party outfits and whatever was clean.

Then February arrives… and real life quietly resumes.

School lunches. Morning rush. After-school activities. Work. Sport. Repeat.

At Innocence & Attitude, February isn’t about big occasions; it’s about clothes that actually work for everyday life. Pieces kids reach for again and again because they’re comfortable, easy and feel good to wear.

Clothes kids want to wear = smoother mornings

We all know the difference between:

“I don’t want to wear that!”
    and
    “I picked this myself.”

When kids feel good in their clothes, mornings run more easily. They move freely through their day, focus better, and carry a quiet confidence that shows in everything they do. From the classroom to the playground.

    This month we’re focusing on:

Soft, breathable fabrics for warm days

Easy outfits that kids can dress themselves in

Reliable go-to pieces that survive busy weeks

    Styles that feel like them

Because the best outfits aren’t the ones saved for special occasions. They’re the ones that make everyday feel comfortable.

    Style for the whole family

Innocence & Attitude isn’t just for the kids.

We also stock women’s and men’s pieces in store, perfect for parents who want effortless outfits that still feel put together: school drop-off to coffee catch-ups and everything in between.

And if you love a coordinated look? We’re big fans of subtle family styling, similar tones, relaxed fits, shared colours, and easy twinning without trying too hard.

The little extras that make it personal

Sometimes it’s the finishing touches kids love most.

Our accessories and cards (available in store only) let them choose something that feels like theirs — a hair clip, jewellery piece, or a special card for a friend’s birthday party.

Those little decisions help kids build independence and confidence, and make getting dressed more fun.

    Feel-good dressing, every day

February is the month routines settle and real life starts again. So instead of dressing for occasions, we dress for living.

    Comfortable. Practical. Loved.

    New Year, New Wardrobe Staples

    New Year, New Wardrobe Staples

Back-to-School & Everyday Essentials That Actually Last

A new year always brings a fresh start — new routines, new school terms, and a quiet reset after the festive chaos. But when it comes to kids’ wardrobes, “new” doesn’t need to mean overcomplicated.

At Innocence & Attitude, we believe the best wardrobes are built on good-quality, everyday staples — the pieces that get worn on repeat, washed a hundred times, and still look great by the end of the term.

    Back-to-School Starts With the Basics

Whether it’s kindy drop-offs, school runs, or busy mornings juggling multiple kids, clothing needs to work hard. That’s why we focus on staples that are:

    ·       Durable enough for playground adventures

    ·       Easy-care for busy households

    ·       Comfortable for all-day wear

    ·       Versatile enough for school, weekends and everything in between

Think tees that don’t lose shape, leggings that stretch without sagging, and layers that can be thrown on without fuss.

Easy-Care Fabrics = Less Laundry Stress

Let’s be honest — no one wants high-maintenance clothing in January.

Our everyday essentials are chosen with real families in mind: fabrics that wash well, dry quickly, and don’t need special treatment. Less ironing, fewer “hand wash only” labels, and more time spent actually enjoying your days.

Growth-Friendly Fits That Go the Distance

Kids grow fast — sometimes overnight. That’s why we love pieces with a little extra stretch, relaxed fits, and brilliant cuts that allow room to grow.

    These are clothes designed to:

    ·       Last beyond one season

    ·       Be adjusted, layered, or worn differently as kids grow

    ·       Offer better value without sacrificing style

Made for Hand-Me-Downs (and Multiple Kids)

One of the biggest compliments we hear?
    “These still look new.”

Quality staples mean clothes that can be passed down between siblings, cousins, or friends — keeping them out of landfill and getting more wear from every piece. It’s better for your budget and better for the planet.

    Building a Wardrobe That Works

January is the perfect time to simplify—fewer pieces. Better quality. Outfits that mix and match effortlessly.

When you build a wardrobe around strong staples, everything else falls into place.

    Shop School-Ready Staples

Pop in-store or browse online to find everyday essentials your kids will actually love wearing — and you’ll love washing.

Tweens love fashion that feels just a little more grown-up, while still being easy to move in for school, sport, and social fun. What Business Really Teaches You – Lessons from the Heart of Innocence & Attitude

What Business Really Teaches You – Lessons from the Heart of Innocence & Attitude

Running a business teaches you a lot—but not always in the ways you expect.

When I first opened Innocence & Attitude in 2017, I knew it would be hard work. I knew it would demand long hours, sacrifice, and learning on the fly. What I didn’t expect was one of the most brutal truths: you won’t always be supported by the people you think will show up.

That was a tough pill to swallow.

Support doesn’t always come from family or friends. More often than not, it comes from complete strangers—customers who walk through the door, locals who spread the word, and fellow business owners who understand the hustle. And honestly? That kind of support is powerful. It’s raw, genuine, and it fuels you on the days when you’re questioning everything.

I’ve learned that to survive—and thrive—you have to be willing to evolve. You have to keep learning, trying, failing, and adjusting. Business doesn’t stand still, and neither can you. The retail world in particular changes so quickly, and staying relevant means keeping your finger on the pulse while still staying true to your own style and values.

One of the most important things I’ve come to understand is that you don’t need all the answers to get started. So many people hold back from starting their dream because they feel like they’re not “ready.” I can tell you right now: no one’s ever really ready. You learn as you go. And sometimes, the only way to figure something out is to take the leap and work it out along the way.

Mindset, more than anything, has been the biggest game-changer. There are going to be hard days—quiet sales weeks, stock delays, unexpected setbacks—but if you stay grounded in your why, you’ll always find a way forward.

    That’s what keeps me going.

I’ve also learned the value of trusting my instincts. When it comes to curating the store and making decisions with all aspects of the business.  From shop design, staffing to choosing brands. I go with my gut! If I love it, know its quality, and think it will resonate with our community, I’ll back it. I always look for pieces that reflect versatility, individuality, and something just a little bit different. Because I know the people who shop with us are looking for more than just another outfit—they’re looking for something that feels like them.

There have been seasons of challenge and moments of magic. But every part of this journey has taught me something, about business, yes, but also about myself. The confidence, resilience, and adaptability I’ve built along the way have become just as valuable as any financial win.

So, if you’re sitting on a dream and waiting for the “perfect time”? Let this be your sign: the timing will never feel perfect. But if your heart is in it, and you’re willing to learn as you go, you’ll be more ready than you think.

Thanks for reading along as I’ve shared the story behind Innocence & Attitude over the past few months. I’ve got more stories and updates to come, so stay tuned for what’s next. The journey is just getting started.

Behind the Counter - A Day in the Life at Innocence & Attitude

Behind the Counter - A Day in the Life at Innocence & Attitude

People often ask me what a “typical” day looks like running Innocence & Attitude—and the truth is, no two days are ever the same. But if there’s one word that sums it up, it’s busy.

I usually start my day around 7.15am, and it rarely winds down before 10.30pm (sometimes even later). Like most working parents, my mornings are a whirlwind of making sure the family is sorted: housework, pets, meals, kids’ rosters and appointments, learner driver hours, and making sure my husband and I are on the same page for the day ahead. And then, it’s into full business mode.

I work six days a week in the shop. The doors open at 9am and most days I’m there until 5.30 or 6.30pm. And even though the store is open to the public during that time, there is so much that goes on behind the scenes. Customer service, steaming and displaying stock, processing online orders, replying to messages and emails, scheduling social media content, organising staff, ordering and receiving stock, doing payroll, paying bills, data entry... the list is long and constant.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep me on my toes, I also handle the day-to-day admin for our family’s other small business—our pest control company. Yep, two businesses, one very full inbox!

But here’s the thing: I love it. I love the variety, the chaos, the people, and the challenge of building something meaningful. I love watching customers walk in and light up when they see something that makes them feel good. I love catching up with reps, photographing new arrivals, and creating a space that reflects both who I am and what I stand for.

There’s a lot of strategy and intention behind everything, from the brands we stock to how we merchandise the floor. But there’s also a lot of heart. I genuinely enjoy the connection side of this business. Whether it’s helping a Mum find the perfect outfit for her teen or watching someone rediscover their confidence through fashion, it’s incredibly rewarding.

Of course, balance is still a work in progress. I’m a Mum to a 16 and 21-year-old, a wife, and a human who also needs rest and breathing space. I’ve learned to be really intentional with my time. I forward plan meals, keep my phone calendar packed with to-dos, and communicate constantly with my family and staff to keep the wheels turning.

And when things don’t go to plan—which happens—I give myself permission to pause, reset, and remember my “why.”

Because at the end of the day, this business isn’t just about clothes. It’s about connection, confidence, and community. And that’s what makes even the busiest days worth it.

Next month, I’ll be sharing the biggest lessons I’ve learned from building this business from the ground up—including a few I never saw coming.

The Birth of Innocence & Attitude – A Leap of Faith and Family

The Birth of Innocence & Attitude – A Leap of Faith and Family

Opening Innocence & Attitude wasn’t just about starting a business—it was about creating something that didn’t exist, something I knew was missing. As a Mum of two at the time, I often found myself frustrated by the lack of quality, age-appropriate clothing options for tweens and teens. No matter which store I walked into, there would only ever be one small rack—if that—dedicated to this age group. And if I was lucky enough to find anything at all, it was rarely from an Australian brand.

This was all before online shopping had taken over the way it has now. So I started thinking: what if I created a store just for them? A space that filled that gap, that focused on individuality, quality, and style, without sacrificing comfort or confidence. The idea sat with me for about two years.

Since the age of 13, I have worked in various small businesses, learning everything I could. Mostly in the hospitality and retail fields. I absolutely loved my employment history, the fast-paced, people-focused nature and helping people. I felt in my heart that one day, I’d take the leap and open something of my own.

But life had some twists and turns for me first.

In 2004, I had my first child—my son—born at just 28 weeks. What followed was a rollercoaster of NICU stays, health battles, and eventually, a diagnosis of a kidney condition at age six that required two years of intensive care and support. Then in 2014, I lost my dad unexpectedly. He was my hero, my best mate, and I faced my life without him at just 37 years old. His passing changed me profoundly. It made me look at life, and time very differently.

I had always imagined “one day” I’d do something brave. But in those moments, after surviving so much and turning 40 in 2016, I decided I wasn’t going to wait any longer. I was done waiting for the right time. I was done asking “what if?” The answer became clear: it was now or never. What was the worst that could happen—after everything I’d already been through?

In September 2017, Innocence & Attitude opened its doors in Swan Hill.

The name? It was inspired by my kids. Caylee was 9 at the time—full of wonder and softness—and Brayden was 13, hitting those early teen years with plenty of, well… attitude. The name captured exactly what I wanted the store to represent. A little bit of edge. A lot of heart. A boutique space that celebrated individuality, style, and confidence, especially for the age group so often overlooked in fashion.

I’ve always had a love of styling, but more than anything, I wanted to create a space where people felt seen, where you didn’t have to “fit the mould” to feel good in what you wore. A space that was inclusive, exciting, and thoughtfully curated—somewhere that balanced edgy with effortless.

Innocence & Attitude is more than just a store. It’s a journey. It’s my story, woven into every rack, every label, and every conversation I have with the people who walk through our doors.

Thanks for being part of it.

Next month, I’ll be sharing what a typical day in my life looks like as a business owner—spoiler alert: there’s no such thing as typical!
